Coming up today in episode #13 of The Species Barrier, tis the season to be jolly but does that apply for non-human animals too? Poet Benjamin Zephaniah delivers some seasonal prose and Sandra joins us from Eden Farm sanctuary in Ireland to discuss the rich emotional lives of turkeys and why she felt compelled to make a film about them entitled You Haven't Lived Until You've Hugged a Turkey.
We hear more from the founders of animal sanctuaries and assess how other species such as turkeys and those labelled pets are affected. Some are eaten and some are given as presents, quickly disposed of as if an unwanted toy. Fiona and Marion are back to tell us more and we are also joined by Jan from FARM sanctuary.
Also, the £100 in eco-vegan shoes vouchers are still up for grabs, we look back on the busy Lincoln Xmas Market and we consider the levels of consumption and the many impacts Christmas has on the planet.
Welcome To The Species Barrier... where two vegan, environmentalists question how we interact with the planet and the other animals who call it home. Prepare to have your preconceptions challenged and explore that barrier in place which separates the human animal from other species.
Listen locally on Lincoln's first community radio station 107.3 Siren FM Thursdays at 2pm GMT (Podcast follows) and repeated Sundays at 3pm or internationally on the website at: http://www.sirenonline.co.uk/
We also run vegan education group Vegan Outreach Lincoln & East Midlands. Podcast and show notes for The Species Barrier can be found at the website: http://veganoutreachuk.co.uk/
